Linnaeus Grants are allocated by the two Swedish Research Councils. The purpose is to enhance support for research of the highest quality that can compete internationally. It also aims to encourage universities and colleges to prioritize research fields and to allocate funding for them. Linnaeus grants are highly competitive and applications are reviewed by international experts.
The Linnaeus centers of excellence are named after Carl von Linné, a biologist, geologist, professor of medicine, educator and zoologist.
