Marine Evolution 2018

15-17 May 2018, Strömstad, Sweden

Arrival 14 May 2018
Departure 18 May 2018

A conference arranged by Centre for Marine Evolutionary Biology at University of Gothenburg

Our ambition is to bring marine evolutionary biologists from all over the world together to present recent and ongoing work, share ideas and discuss future collaborations, all in the beautiful setting of the Kosterhavet Marine National Park in the archipelago on the Swedish west coast.

Registration for Session proposals is now closed.

Registration for the meeting will open in November!

Key note speakers:

Seascapes and genetic structures

Cynthia Riginos, School of Biological Sciences, University of Queensland, Australia.
Research profile includes: Seascape genomics and adaptation in marine environments

Speciation and hybrid zones

Nicolas Bierne, Institute des Sciences de l'Évolution Montpellier (ISEM), University of Montpellier, France.
Research profile includes: population genomics, experimental evolution and modelling investigating mechanisms of adaptation and speciation in marine organisms.

Andreas Hejnol, Sars International Centre for Marine Molecular Biology, Norway.
Research profile includes: evolution of the development of organ systems studied by comparative approaches in a range of marine invertebrates.

Functional genomics

Marjorie Oleksiak, Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science, Florida.
Research profile includes: functional genomics approaches to investigate genes, gene expression and genetic adaptation.

Genome and protein evolution

Nicolas Galtier, Institute des Sciences de l'Évolution Montpellier (ISEM), CNRS, University of Montpellier, France.
Research profile includes: genome evolution in eukaryotes, protein evolution and adaptive processes, GC-biased gene conversion, and mitochondrial DNA evolution.

Human-driven dispersal in marine systems

Frédérique Viard, Station Biologique Roscoff, France.
Research profile includes: population genomics of biological invasions, connectivity in marine landscapes, mating systems and reproductive strategies in marine organisms.

Strömstad Spa, Strömstad

The conference will take place over three days, in the beautiful Bohuslän region on the Swedish West Coast (listed as one of the “ten last great wildernesses in the world” by CNN), within the Kosterhavet Marine National Park, strategically located between major international airports in Oslo, Norway and Gothenburg, Sweden. It will host nine sessions, as well as excursion events, evening performances and time for discussions and relaxation. The venue is the Strömstad Spa, a modern conference infrastructure with pool and gym facilities.
