CeMEB 16th Assembly

Focus: Marine Evolution meets Medicine

IMAGO species as marine model species in medicine and biotechnological applications

When: 11 - 13 October
The meeting starts with lunch 12.30 on 11th October and ends at 15.30 on 13th October.

Where: The Sven Lovén Centre - Tjärnö

One major goal for CeMEB is to develop 8 new marine model species, including a reference genome, species culture technology and new genetic tools. At present, the 8 genomes are in progress or completed. We have half of the species in culture, but we have not yet started to develop tools for gene manipulation.

Our target species represent disparate parts of tree-of-life; a fish, a brittlestar, a snail, two crustaceans, a brown algae, a diatom, and a marine yeast. Our topics span widely: mating behaviour, regeneration of organs in adults, speciation under gene flow, rapid local adaptation, human induced evolution, and evolution of salt tolerance.

However, we strongly believe that our genomic resources can be useful in research outside evolutionary biology. Therefore, we now invite researchers in Medicine, Biotechnology and Molecular Biology to an open and unprejudiced discussion.
