Topics for discussion

Group Discussion I

Group discussion about Research Themes (Calle, Kerstin (instead of Jon), Anders, Sanna and Karin/Per

We have defined five research themes within CeMEB, and these themes are and should be under constant revision. The theme leaders have discussed and slightly modified the phrasing of the different subtopics under their respective headings. The hope is that this division will constitute a good base for discussions on ongoing and planned activities within CeMEB. In addition, the plan is that these themes would be the overall design of the half-time report that is to be produced in about 1.5 years time.

We are going to discuss this during the coming Assembly and we would like you to consider the following:

Do you like the formulations? Something missing? Something unclear? Something ambiguous? Please remember that there is no clear cut between the themes, and some issues are relevant for more than one theme, and that is not necessarily a problem.

Before the meeting the CeMEB members will receive a request to list publications and project titles under the theme / themes were they are best suited.
The result of this survey will be discussed during Group Discussion I.

Group Discussion II

Future tasks within existing themes?
Is there a need for new themes? Where are we heading?
Joint applications? Joint projects?

Group Discussion III

➢ How do we take the genomic further? (Kerstin, Marina and Martin)
We have defined 8 model species. How do we use the information from the genome sequencing to answer evolutionary interesting questions?
- If we get funded by the Wallenberg foundation – what do we want to do and in which order?
- If we don’t get the funding – what do we want to do then and with which money?

Group Discussion IV

Do we have themes/issues with little or no activity at all?
How do we handle this? Why do we lack activity? Is it a problem or not? Should we do something? What?

Local adaptations in the face of dispersal (Lotta)

Adaptive value of the phenotypic variation in wild populations: what can be done with quantitative genetics? (Greg)
