Travel Grants in memory of Anna Godhe

Two travel grants from Wenerska fonden of SEK 15,000 each were awarded to a doctoral student and a postdoc.

The purpose is to promote knowledge exchange (conference or study trip) with a focus on diatoms, preferably in line with Anna Godhe's research.

Björn Andersson

was awareded the scholarship to present his work on genetic and phenotypic changes in Skeletonema marinoi and Thalassiosira baltica as response to pollution at a copper mine situated by the Baltic Sea. The presentation will take place at the next European ASLO conference.

Dr Anushree Sanyal

was awarded the scholarship to present her work "Diatom resting spores can survive in nature for several millennia" at the International Diatom Symposium in Japan, 2020.

Both fellows have been inspired by Anna Godhe and are two very promising young researchers.

The grants were awarded in conjunction with the memory conference "In dialogue with diatoms", Tjärnö Marine Laboratory, 5-7 November 2019.
